Central Japan

A Beautiful Place

Arriving in Japan on October 26th was eye opening and pleasant. The country had opened for individual tourists on October 11, 2022 so there are not too many tourists, a good thing. It was a very long flight.

While there is plenty of public transportation, including the Shinkansen Bullet Train, there are lots other trains, buses, trolleys, and subways. In Okayama even a monorail.

I started on the south side of Osaka for a couple of nights, then up to the Kyoto area, first near Arashiyama then downtown Kyoto with a day trip to Uno in the first week. Next was a more rural area called Uji with ferry access to some nearby islands. From there to Matsuyama and a day-trip to Uchiko before heading south to Okinawa on November.

I have been to the Americas, parts of Europe, time to go to the other side.

Join me as I make my way around through Soba, Udon, Sushi, and other wonderful treats in this beautiful country.

Onsen Experiences: I have been to two Onsens (Hot Spring / Bath House), One near Okayama in the port town of Uno called Tamano-yu Onsen. Indoor and outdoor facilities. The second is the oldest Onsen in Japan, in Matsuyama, called the Dogo Onsen. The original is being renovated but the newer section called the Annex is busy. Both are first class, clean, fresh, and definitely refreshing after a long day of walking and exploring.
