Okinawa and Southern Islands

Island Hopping: November 19th-20th (Island Tour & Ferry)

Aside from having to wait for a ferry at the end of the day, hot and tired, Taketomi is a magical island. Bike riding, water buffalo, walking, and a good lunch, beaches.

November 17- ..., 2022 - Ishigaki Island

The first thing I can say is it is very humid. It was a long but interesting travel day with two flights and long connection, shuttles, bus rides, taxis, and new surroundings. It was dark on the way in from the airport so I have no idea what to expect.

At the airport in Naha there must have been 1,000 students in about 5-6 groups. So orderly, sitting on the floor in quiet rows and lines. Seems foreign.

November 14-17, 2022 - Kumejima Island

This week I have been on Kumejima and today head to Ishigaki Island for about a week. Ishigaki is very near Taipei, Taiwan in the East and South China Sea and the Philippine Sea. Weather forecast looks good for the week. Most of Okinawa, and certainly Kumejima remind me of of Hawaii, without the tourists. I arrived by a ferry from Naha and am flying out soon to continue my exploration before heading north to Nago, Okinawa then back to mainland Japan.

November 10th

In the northern part of Okinawa's main Island, I had an opportunity to go to their Aquarium. They have quite the selection of what I will call Tropical Fish. Beautiful colors, amazing shapes, and all sizes. The largest, a whale shark, I have seen live in La Paz, Mexico last year while on a boat in the Sea of Cortez.

The water is so clear here. Colors range Jade Green to Metallic Blue.
